We Belong Together

We Belong Together, is a childrens book written by Todd Parr.  It is a book about families and adoption.  I am all for books that promote adoption in a positive way.

I would have to say that this book is for fairly young children; most likely children ages 2-5, would appreciate it best.  The book talks about adoption in a way that is easy for young children to understand the basics of becoming part of an adopted family.  I like the focus of everyday family activities that show caring and love.

It talks alot about the needs of the child.  Really though, if the book was read to, or read by, an older child; i think it would be more appropriate to go in depth about the needs that are met for both the parent and the child.

I think some older children might feel somewhat put off thinking that the “needing” was only one-sided; noone likes to feel obligated about being accepted.

As an adoptive parent myself, i know there are a multitude of reasons for adopting.  The need to give and receive love is a basic component of making an adoptive family; it is most definately a two way street.

Todd Parr does a wonderful job of illustrating his book.  His colors are vibrant and upbeat.  It is a happy book.

The publisher of this book is: Little Brown and Company
